According to the cities official websites of Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland, there are currently over 10,000 new apartments currently under construction. With the prospect of up to 50,000 high paying tech jobs coming to the region over the next few years, housing is sure to be in high demand. Developers are already anticipating this rush and are busy building the modern units that tech workers demand. But is 10,000 enough? It seems the answer is no. Not only does the cities websites list projects currently under construction, but they also lists many more projects and zoning permit applications under review. With all these projects under construction and planned, the Eastside is set to have a building boom for the foreseeable future.

Let’s take a look at some of the major developments in each of these Eastside cities.

Redmond

There are a number of apartment block constructions currently underway in Downtown Redmond. Each are in walking distance of Redmond town center. One of the closest developments; Redmond Town Center Apartments will have 6 stories, 286 apartment units, 9,100 square footage of commercial space and 537 parking spaces.

That’s nothing compared to the two major construction projects currently underway in Esterra park. Esterra park is the first major urban mixed-use redevelopment in Overlake Village. The two apartment developments; Lincoln Properties Apartments and Avalon Bay Apartments will house up to 1,000 new apartments.

All up, there are over 3,000 new residential units currently under construction in the city of Redmond.

Kirkland

According to Kirkland City’s website there are currently 2,444 residential units under construction. Downtown Kirkland is expanding with the development of Kirkland Urban – a mixed-use development with over 50 shopping outlets, restaurants, bars, 600,000 square foot of office space and 185 residential units.

Just up the road there’s another major mixed-use development -The Village at Totem lake. At the center of the village is the Aura development which will house 202 luxurious apartments. Totem lake could be soon rival downtown Kirkland as the number of residential units currently under construction is over 1,800.

Bellevue

Developments in Redmond and Kirkland are spread out and not many are surpassing 6 stories. This is not the case in downtown Bellevue, however, where high rise buildings are going up at a rapid pace. Paul Allen’s Vulcan tower with 42 stories will be the tallest building on the eastside once its complete. Another one of the most prestigious developments right in the heart of downtown Bellevue is Avenue. Once complete it will consist of two towers with retail podiums, 330 condominium units and 251 hotel units.

Bottom Line

With the boom in tech jobs there will naturally follow a boom in housing units which we are currently seeing. This looks like it may be the first wave of many more to come.
